She may be known as a bad gal but Riri did a whole lot of good and in a big, big way on Thursday night at her first annual Diamond Ball in aid of her Clara Lionel Foundation and her beloved island – Barbados.
The event was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and attended by a range of celebs including Brad Pitt, Ellen Pompeo and Salma Hayek who attended with her luxury goods mogul husband Francois Pinault. Funds raised will go towards the foundation which will outfit the Clara Brathwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine which Rihanna established at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados (the only critical care hospital in the island). This year’s ball is aimed at continuing her good work, with a projected BD$2.4 million (US$1.2M) in infrastructural works and equipment planned for the centre. The night was both spectacular and intimate. On the grand side was Rihanna dramatically ‘conducting’ a full orchestra as they played ‘Pour It Up’. She was bedecked in a midnight blue Zac Posen couture ballgown that would have played well at this year’s Charles James-themed Met Ball.
On the intimate end were the countless snaps from Rihanna and her family and friends, from her and bestie Melissa raucously singing Big Sean’s ‘I Don’t F*ck with You’ to the sweet sentiments from her close friend and Combermere classmate Sonita who posted a throwback pic expressing her pride in her friend.
