Where did they go: Is Sigail Currie poised for a big comeback?

Another fashion season is quickly approaching and as usual, Islandista will be on the look out for islandista models and designers on the runways of New York, London, Paris (gotta look real hard here – except at Balmain) and Milan (eyes will have to be peeled).

But even as we look out for our favourite regulars like Jourdan Dunn and Joan Smalls and hot newcomers like Kai Newman and Ysaunny Britto we can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia and regret.

For even as we celebrate the ones who are doing well, we definitely miss some of the islandista models whose careers were on fire a few years ago, only for them to fade into the fashion fringes. We looked at this at the end of the last season, investigating what’s been going on in the careers of Chrisell Stubbs, Lyndsey Scott and the gorgeous Sedene Blake.

We’re coming back to this issue with a closer look at Jamaican model Sigail Currie. Liike Sedene or Lyndsey, her career was so big a few years ago when along with Jeneil Williams, she dominated London Fashion Week.

But in recent years, she has not been seen much on the catwalk seen and it is a mystery why. Sigail has a gorgeous face but more importantly she really knows how to model – the fans over on the fashion spot are always raving about her angles and flattering, eye-catching poses.

In recent years, her runway appearances have been more low-profile designers though she has had some magazine work and also appeared in a John Legend music video in 2013.

However, a change may be on the horizon. She has recently joined the more high profile Storm Model agency in London which represents Alex Wek, Behati Prinsloo, Cara Delevingne and of course our girl Jourdan Dunn.

In recent months she has been more high-profile on the social and social media scene, liming with Jourdan everywhere from a pub watching the World Cup finals to the front rows of the men fashion shows.

We’re hopeful that being with such a strong agency will mean that we will see a lot more of Sigail once again.
