An icon who never forgets her roots

Rihanna scrawling it upLots of ink has been spilled on islandista superstar Rihanna’s American Music Awards honor on Sunday night.

The Bajan singer was presented with the AMAs first-ever icon award for her massive accomplishments in the music business and it was a proud and emotional occasion as mummy Monica Brathwaite presented the award to her.

And of course, much has been said about Riri’s errr…interesting hair do.

But by far our favourite moment of the show is this candid backstage clip of her celebrating with her friends. Because Robyn Rihanna Fenty is a Bajan girl from Westbury Road and she ent gine let wunna forget it. And if you doubt us, check the Facebook vid linked below.

And of course, the Westbury Road liming and party crew promptly issued a statement bigging up their girl.
“The Directors of Scrawl Up wish to congratulate our neighbourhood grown (Westbury New Road) superstar Rihanna Robyn Fenty on “Scrawling Up” yet another international accolade, becoming the recipient of the coveted Icon prize at the American Music Awards.

Robyn, as we continue to refer to her today, has always received the complete support from Scrawl up in all of her endeavours. She has been and will continue to be our icon and an honorary member of our group Scrawl up. At the age of 25, to be a global icon is beyond phenomenal!
It seems like only yesterday when Scrawl up began our endeavours in the competitive local entertainment arena, that words of encouragement and guidance from our own Robyn was the pillar of strength we needed to keep us grounded in what we set out to achieve.

We again salute you Robyn Rihanna Fenty, continue to make us and your country proud.”
