Couture shows round up – the Islandista edition!

Some of our favourite islandistas were up front and fabulous at the recently ended fall/winter 2013 couture shows in Paris – and one major one was very absent!

Naomi Campbell returned to the Versace runway for the first time in nearly 15 years and … well how is this woman 43 years old? She truly showed why there’s nothing like a true supermodel, even in a fashion landscape of anonymous, amorphous, androgynous young girls from the Adriatic and beyond.

She brought attitude and sex appeal to the runway and perfectly embodied the “look at me” Versace ethos as she both opened and closed the show in grand style and fine form. It was all sexy, daring cut-outs and sheer paneling and Naomi’s incredible body and signature smirk was just what we needed.

And speaking of controversial islandistas with incredible bodies…hello Rihanna! As MTV put it, Riri put together “two arguably octogenarian staples” – a long cardigan and pearls and managed to make it so sexy that every media house from Hello magazine to the Wall Street Journal (yes, really!) was all a twitter.

Not your granny's cardigan and pearls... Rihanna caused a sensation at the Chanel show.

Mostly because it was clear she wasn’t wearing any bra

And that it was equally clear that she was wearing a nipple ring.

Meanwhile, while just the hint (well a big hint) at Rihanna’s cleavage was causing a buzz, another islandista was reportedly left out in the cold because of hers. Our girl Jourdan Dunn tweeted that she got dropped from the Dior couture show because her breasts are too big (yes, really). She followed up with a tweet noting: “I’m normally told I’m cancelled because I’m ‘coloured’ so being cancelled because off my boobs is a minor : )”
