One of our very favourite islandistas, Jamerican Sanya Richards-Ross received a huge honor this weekend, being inducted into the Women’s Athletics Hall of Honor of her alma mater – University of Texas.
Enshrinement into the Hall of Honor is considered the highest honor bestowed by the 38-year-old UT Women’s Athletics department.
And wow… clearly some tough standards. I mean, Sanya is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and four-time World Champion, not to mention the best women’s 400m runner in history and she’s only just been inducted.
At the college level, she was a five-time NCAA Champion and 11-time All-American and led the Longhorns to three Top Five team finishes at the NCAA Championships. She is still the UT record-holder in both the indoor and outdoor 400 meters.

Sanya, who always reps the Longhorns harrrd and is of course married to fellow U of T athlete, football player Aaron Ross, was super-excited about the honor, tweeting:
“Today was such a special day! Being inducted into UT’s Hall of Honor was unbelievable. UT is so classy.”
