Rihanna rules!

Our favourite islandista Rihanna has been having a good stretch- a very good stretch.

First came the news last week that Ri-ri has surpassed Madonna as the fastest solo artist to achieving 20 top 10 singles in the shortest amount of time, according to Billboard.

Her latest single We Found Love, from her upcoming Talk That Talk album putting her over the edge to be … dare we say it… the new Queen of Pop.

Yep, we do dare say it – in fact, Ri-ri told Paper Magazine years ago that this was her aim:

“This one only a certain artist can do. . . . I want to be the black Madonna…. When I did that metallic stuff for my ‘Umbrella’ video, I didn’t do it to show my body. I didn’t do it for people to like me. I did it because it was a cool visual, unexpected, and it looked hot. I just find myself leaning toward stuff that only Madonna can pull off.”

Like 20 top 10 singles!

Then this week, came the news that Esquire magazine has deemed her the ‘Sexiest Woman Alive 2011.’

Need we say more? Rihanna is simply at the top of her game right now.

And of course, in the interview, the uber-islandista doesn’t forget her roots, talking about the conflicted relationship she had with the Bajan public when she first burst onto the scene.

“Early on in your career, you used the word hate a lot when describing the way the people of Barbados responded to your success.

I grew to realize that that hate was just pride. I realized that it’s a part of our culture. I’m always representing Barbados. All over the world, no matter what I was doing, no matter what I achieved, no matter what award it was, I always shouted them out. So, I started making them feel like, “This is our girl. If people in the UK could get this excited about her, what’s wrong with us?”

You’re the most famous person in the history of your country.

And I never turned my back, too.”

That last emphasis was ours. Because that is entirely true and that is why we always stan Rihanna hard here on Islandista and who nuh like it… you can finish that statement. Islandista success is something we’re always a fan of.

But successful islandistas who always big up the Caribbean? We love them.

Congrats to Ri-ri!
